Blogging is an important tool that needs to be used correctly. Teach the students appropriate behavior so they can become a global citizen. Take the time to learn the program before you use it with your students.

In order for Education to change, we as teachers must shift our teaching to the “guide on the side” and implement the use of 21st Century skills into our lessons or we will lose our students. They can multi-task on a grand level and we have to incorporate this technology into our teaching. Granted, we have to teach them to be “aware of their surroundings” on the Internet just like in real life. Teach them how to be safe and to make wise choices. Moreover, include support from the family too.

I love the use of technology in the classrooms and use it on a daily basis. I use everything from a laptop to a SmartBoard with Redcat. The main drawback I have seen is the policing of the use of the technology. We have a form that must be filled out by ALL students who wish to have their work, photos, or anything else “Published” on the web. This creates issues, especially when they are not turned in.

We are going to begin using blogs this year in our school district. Our administrators have been concerned about the pubic and openess that blogs allow. We need to give it a try and deal with the responsiblities and public concerns as they arrive. If we never try, we will never know.

I feel that we are teaching about awareness for personal safety, alcohol and drug awareness and so we should also be teaching students about Web and Internet safety.
