About Lainie Rowell
Consultant and Trainer, November Learning, Newport Beach, CA
Lainie Rowell is a K-12 Educational Technology Coordinator for Newport-Mesa Unified School District. She is also a consultant and trainer for Alan November’s November Learning and CUEtoYOU. In these roles, Lainie works closely with K-12 classroom teachers providing professional development on best practices and ways to integrate technology to improve teaching and learning. Prior to this, Lainie spent 7 years in the classroom teaching Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 6th grade.
She is a presenter at local, national and international conferences including Building Learning Communities (BLC), Macworld, and the Computer Using Educators (CUE) Conference. Lainie is also the Orange County CUE Board President and serves on the CUE Communications Committee.
Lainie holds a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from California State University, Long Beach where she is currently a guest lecturer.
In 2007, Lainie was honored as an Apple Distinguished Educator and Google Certified Teacher. She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Year and was featured in OC Family Magazine as one of 10 Teachers Making a Difference.
Pre-conference Sessions
This session addresses the same content explored in the Building Learning Communities: Putting It All Together workshop, but explores issues and examples from the perspective of an elementary school teacher.
In this four-hour session you will learn the basics of information literacy, plus have the opportunity to work with members of our team as you explore how to build a blog, create a podcast or start a wiki for the elementary classroom. Learn how to integrate all of these tools across the curriculum in meaningful and effective ways. Our team will show you how it all fits together and will be available during the course of the conference week to guide you as you work on projects and integrate new ideas. The results will be expanded opportunities for authentic work, global audiences and concrete ways that your students can make valuable contributions to their learning community.

Learn how to tap Google’s free online toolset and knock down the walls of your classroom, engage students and make connections in new and exciting ways. During this pre-conference session you will build robust tools that you can immediately begin using in your classroom. Develop a custom search engine based on your particular subject area or unit of study. Create an interactive map for your literature, history, math or science class. With these and other open-ended tools, the options are endless.

This session will be a rich source of ideas, resources and information about learning and digital video.
This workshop will explore productivity tools, educational activities, teacher observations and more, using built-in and freely available applications for Apple’s iPhone. We’ll include updates on educational institutions that are leading in iPhone development and innovative uses. New York Times columnist David Pogue describes the iPhone as “the first widespread pocket desktop computer. You’re witnessing the birth of a third major computer platform: Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone.” Don’t miss out on this innovative workshop.
